Sladjana Vujovic

A British artist born in Montenegro, Sladjana's academic background includes studies of English, drama and mathematics.

She is a theatre director, producer, playwright and actress and has worked extensively in the UK and internationally (Germany, Switzerland, Ireland, Montenegro, Slovenia, India and the US).

In London she has worked (variously as actress, director, playwright and producer) at the Tricycle Theatre, Young Vic, Drill Hall, Riverside Studios, Bloomsbury Theatre, Watermans Arts Centre and several fringe venues. While jointly running Mania Productions with Gary Drabwell, she ran three Edinburgh Festival Fringe venues, co-producing many shows, some of them award-winning. 

Sladjana's play 'The Tender Mercies' won a Fringe First at the 1993 Edinburgh Festival as well as huge critical acclaim. It was published by Aurora Metro Press in 1999. The play was inspired by the civil war in former Yugoslavia and deals with the role played by political propaganda in generating fear, hatred and violence. She has written three other stage plays, one short film screenplay and is currently working on a collection of short stories.

Sladjana is joint artistic director of acttc and Mania Productions, two London based theatre companies that promote new writing and innovative staging. 


Romance D'Carnaval

A journey into the heart of tango

Created by an international team of artists Romance D'Carnaval is a powerful tango-drama that fuses dance, poetry, digital and video art and live music to tell a story of a family and a nation divided. It explores a personal destiny, a part of Argentinean history and complex roots and virtuosity of tango.

It opens with Malena, an Argentinian girl born in exile, arriving to Buenos Aires for the first time in 2005, to discover passion, tragedy and the secret to her own identity: her family’s story is intertwined with the social and political turmoil of 20 th century Argentina, the barrios and the Golden Age of Argentina's carnival.

Myriam Ojeda-Patiño is the choreographer and artistic director while Sladjana Vujović, acclaimed theatre director and award-winning playwright, has developed and directed the narrative for Romance D'Carnaval.

The show is performed by ten extraordinary Latin American dancers, while UK's leading tango ensemble, Tango Siempre play a mixture of classic and original tango tunes. Together with Ojeda-Patiño’s stunning choreography they promise to take the audience on a moving journey into the heart of tango.

The production will tour the United Kingdom from October 2006 .
